Privacy Policy

Responsible handling of personal data is a high priority for the Federal Ministry of Defence (BMLV). We want you to know when we collect which data and how we use it.

In order to protect your rights, we have adopted technical and organisational measures which ensure that we and external service providers commissioned by us comply with the data protection regulations.

As we continue to develop our website and implement new technologies in order to enhance our services, it may become necessary for us to amend this privacy policy. We thus recommend you review this privacy policy regularly.

Legal basis

The legal basis for the storage and processing of personal data used on the websites of the BMLV is, unless explicitly stated otherwise, the Federal Ministries Act 1986, Federal Law Gazette No. 76/1986 as amended, Part 2 of the Annex to § 2 (Federal Government activity information).

You as a user agree to the data processing in the sense of this declaration.

Server logs

Each of your accesses to the websites of the BMLV is stored in a log file (server logs) for a limited time with the following data.

  • IP address of the requestor,
  • request details and destination address,
  • name of the retrieved file and volume of data transferred,
  • date and time of retrieval,
  • report whether the retrieval was successful.

These data are used exclusively for system security verification. There is no evaluation or profiling of any individual.

Nevertheless, we reserve the right to identify your IP address in the event of attacks on the BMLV’s internet infrastructure.

Optimization of the website

Data is collected and shared for marketing and optimisation purposes on this website using etracker GmbH ( technology. Usage profiles can be created from this data under a pseudonym. Cookies can be used to implement this. Cookies are small text files that are saved locally in the cache of the visitor’s internet browser. These cookies enable the recognition of the internet browser. The data collected using the etracker technologies will not be used to personally identify the user of the website or be combined with the personal data pertaining to the bearer of the pseudonym without the explicitly granted approval of the person concerned. Consent to its collection and storage with future effect can be revoked at any time.

Contact Forms & Emails

Data that you provide to us via online forms or by email will be treated responsibly by our employees and used only for the purposes and purpose of the application. It is your decision whether you want to share this information.

Your other inquiries to the BMLV/Federal Armed Forces will be kept in paper or electronic form in accordance with the deadlines for the retention of records. The use of your data is exclusively for direct correspondence with you.

Publication of personal data

Publication of personal data on BMLV information pages (for example, contact persons for journalists, unit commanders) is carried out for the purpose of contact and networking information based on the express consent of the parties concerned. Publication of personal data in press releases occurs in the public interest on the basis of the legal basis Article 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR.


No personal user profiles will be created.


Cookies are small text files that are saved on the visitor’s computer in order to recognise them. Thus, the information contained in the cookies is used for session control, server load balancing, for analysis purposes and to increase the security of our applications, as well as for customisation and usability. This enables a high degree of usability of our website. No personal data is stored in the cookies.

Disclosure of personal data to third parties

Data logged during access to the BMBF’s website is only disclosed to third parties in so far as we are obliged to do so by law or under a court order or if disclosure is required for (criminal) prosecution in the case of attacks on the BMBF internet infrastructure.

In the case of ordering information material, brochures or other products, we only use the personal information you provide within the BMLV and the companies responsible for processing the order.

Any transfer to third parties for commercial or non-commercial purposes will not take place without your express consent.

Protection of minors

Persons below the age of 14 should not transmit personal data to us without the consent of their parents or legal guardians. We do not request personal data from children and adolescents. We do not knowingly collect such data and do not pass it on to third parties.

Privacy policy for social media

The BMLV takes the current discussion about data protection in social networks very seriously. It is currently not legally clear whether and to what extent all networks offer their services in accordance with European data protection regulations.

We therefore expressly point out that the Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter services used by the BMLV store the data of their users (e.g. personal information, IP address) in accordance with their data usage guidelines and use them for business purposes.

The BMLV has no influence on the data collection and its further use by these social networks. Thus, there is no information on the extent to which, at what place and for what duration the data is stored, to what extent the networks comply with existing deletion obligations, which evaluations and links are made with the data and to whom the data is passed on.

Privacy policy for the use of Facebook plugins (Share button)

This website uses plugins from the social network Facebook, 1601 South California Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA. Facebook plugins can be identified by the Facebook logo or the “Share” button on our site.

You can find an overview of Facebook pluginshere. When visiting our site, the plug-in will establish a direct connection between your browser and the Facebook server. Facebook thus receives the information that you have visited our website with your IP address. If you click on the Facebook “Share” button while you are logged into your Facebook account, you can link the content of our pages to your Facebook profile. This allows Facebook to associate visits to our website with your user account.

Your rights

In principle, you have the rights to information, correction, deletion, restriction, data portability, revocation, and objection. If you believe that the processing of your data violates data protection law or your data protection rights have been otherwise violated in any way, you can complain to the supervisory authority. In Austria, this is the Data Protection Authority.
