Safety and aerial acrobatics: The Jägerbatallion Wien 1 ‘Hoch- und Deutschmeister’ at AIRPOWER24
AIRPOWER24, Europe’s largest airshow, showcased spectacular flight manoeuvres and technical precision while placing high demands on the safety and coordination of the event. This year, the Jägerbatallion Wien 1 ‘Hoch- und Deutschmeister’ with over 600 militia soldiers is a central pillar for the smooth running of the event. Since its foundation in 1696, the traditional militia battalion has been dedicated to protecting and securing critical infrastructure and is once again demonstrating at AIRPOWER24 that experience and operational readiness are indispensable for security and order – then as now.
Safe and fast access to the AIRPOWER24 site
Under heightened measures, the Jägerbatallion Wien 1 ‘Hoch- und Deutschmeister’ militia conducts access controls at the three large gates and check visitors for prohibited items. Equipped with pepper spray and anti-stab vests, they are visitors’ first point of contact and ensure that everything runs smoothly and safely. Care is taken in advance to ensure visitors are diverted to less busy entrances in good time should a gate become overcrowded.
Vigilance in the background
The battalion’s reconnaissance platoon is on duty in the extended area surrounding the event. With a trained eye, the militia checks the surroundings for potential threats and passes the information on to the battalion. Meanwhile, telecommunicators monitor visitor numbers and transmit them by radio to a central contact point to ensure that visitor capacities are always controlled. Public relations also take care of internal communication to ensure a smooth flow of information between the units and a strong external presence.
Medical care, when every minute counts
The warm weather on Saturday is particularly challenging for the paramedics as the risk of dehydration and heat exhaustion for visitors is high. But the Jägerbataillon has made provisions: general practitioners, specialists, and emergency paramedics are on hand to provide fast and professional assistance. First aid stations are distributed around the site so that first aid can be provided quickly in an emergency – medical care is available around the clock during both days of the event.
One team, one mission
Its close cooperation in various areas characterises the Jägerbataillon. Every task is crucial, whether it’s access control at the gates, securing the site, surveillance in the background, or staff work. This enables the battalion to respond quickly and efficiently to all requirements and provide support at AIRPOWER24.
