State-of-the-art digital technology for civil protection
In crisis and disaster management, ‘island solutions’ have emerged over the last few decades in information technology that describe, interpret, and present information for the respective organisation in a very specific way. Differing IT systems have posed a particular challenge for organisations to exchange information with each other. However, a common picture of the situation provides an important information basis for the effective and efficient management of disasters. Under the leadership of the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, a new digital communication platform has been developed that enables the seamless exchange of information between both military and civilian IT systems. This will significantly improve cooperation between emergency services, voluntary organisations, and citizens to effectively manage disasters.
The platform was developed as part of the Interpreter project funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation, and Technology in the KIRAS security research programme. Austria is thus setting a new standard in modern crisis and disaster management.
