THE MURTAL REGION
AN ADVENTURE FROM PEAK TO VALLEY
Variety, diversity, adventure: the ingredients of any break in the Murtal region, a holiday destination of fascinating opposites. While the Murtal mountain region offers boundless adventure in the great outdoors, the region "in the valley" is home to the Red Bull Ring and features exceptional events and adrenaline kicks – like AIRPOWER16, for example.
At between 700 and 2,700 m above sea level, the Murtal region is second to none when it comes to mountain adventure: there's a whole raft of activities on offer: from exciting family, themed and alpine pasture hikes to summit adventures and various climbing trips. Or stop off in a cabin and enjoy regional specialities.
The landscape is distinguished by the River Mur, which winds through the valley like a "green" thread. Along its idyllic banks runs one of Austria's most popular bike trails - loved by pleasure bikers and sporty cyclists alike. The cycleway takes in towns and villages dating back over a thousand years, castles and abbeys: historic gems where numerous events are held to showcase the culture and history of the Murtal from ancient times to the present day.
There are excursions for everyone, whatever the weather. The "Murtal GuestCARD" entitles visitors to attractive discounts for excursions, ski resorts and regional shops. Book, travel, enjoy.
Tee off, birdie and putt are frequently used words in the Murtal: rookies as well as pros can be found practising their strokes on any of the three golf courses. The Aqualux spas in Fohnsdorf or Wildbad Einöd near Dürnstein offer easier ways to relax. Just slip into the warm waters and enjoy.
Speeding up rather than slowing down is what it's all about at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg: it offers track days for budding racing drivers looking for a guaranteed adrenaline rush. Experience motor sport up close and personal, from the legendary race circuit to off-road tracks.
Whether you're a skier, snowboarder or just enjoy the winter, the Murtal is the winter region par excellence. The "8 Murtal ski mountains" guarantee winter fun between 800 and 2,222 m above sea level: 60 cable cars and lifts, around 170 km of slopes. There are pistes to suit everyone: fans of carving, snowboarding and freestyle, beginners and those who haven't skied in a while.
Guaranteed snow and perfectly maintained pistes are trademarks of the Murtal, as are the many extras for families and kids - like the Nocky Flitzer toboggan run in Turracher Höhe, the tubing arena on the Kreischberg or the children’s Lachtal. A wide range of cross-country ski runs, ski touring and many other activities round off any successful vacation in the Murtal.
